Paraty was founded in 1667 around the Church of Nossa Senhora dos Remedios.Located on the Bay of Angra dos Reis, it is a preserved Brazilian Imperial town with its stone-paved streets, a colonial fort, its baroque churches and its colonial houses. The village used to have over 250 distilleries and the port was an important outlet for the gold and precious stones.
