First named São Paulo de Piratininga, the city, located
on the plateau of the Serra do Mar, was founded on January 25, 1554, by
the Jesuits.
The state of São Paulo has a population of over 40 million and
it is the financial and industrial centre of Brazil. São Paulo has
three airports, Guarulhos, Congonhas International Airport, and Campo de
Marte Airport. It is also today one of the highest per capita helicopter
ownership.
The main sights are the metropolitan cathedral - Catédral da
Sé, the skyscraper Edifício Itália, the Banespa Building,
the MASP - Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Ibirapuera Park - the largest
park of the city, and the Avenida Paulista in the financial district.

Brazilian, Chinese, Jewish, and Arab restaurants.
